It is a great place for relaxation, away from the hustle and bustle of city. There is a place nearby to watch dolphins but early booking is required as the boat will only be operated when there are 10pax

The city is relaxed and very fresh and green. The mountain and ocean views are beautiful.... very similar to Hawaii. We lots of bicyclists in and around Taitung and this is certainly one of the most ideal places anywhere in Taiwan for those that love to bicycle with nice roads, fresh air and beautiful views.

It is definitely a must visit as recommended by many Taiwanese during my solo backpacking trip. And i definitely not regret visiting there at the last minute. I recommend 2 nights' stay on Green Island to fully enjoy the scenery, relax and recharge. The 50min ferry ride (flights available) might be too bumpy for some but worth it. Go for snorkelling, explore the island, star gazing and spotting deers at night! If I had more time, I will love to stay on Green Island for 2 nights and taitung city for another 2 nights (or more!)

Tourists might find it hard to get around. The people there are very friendly! Every restaurant we went, the owners will sit down and chat if they are free. You won't get that very often. One place to visit is Chulu Ranch （初鹿牧场）. Admission to the ranch itself is NT100 and for NT100 more, you can feed the animals (feed provided), take a horse ride and a vanilla ice cream cone from one of the shops. It is definitely fun for city dwellers :) Another place is Sanxiantai （三仙台）. Legend has it that 3 immortals came to this place and loved it and so it was named as such. So walk the Eight Arches Bridge （八拱桥）and you will come to the mouth of the island. I didn't have time to walk it all due to limited time. Took me about 15 minutes to walk over the bridge and 10 minutes to walk into the island. So tranquil, u feel that u r the only people there! If you are able to, travel to Taitung in late May/early June, before the weather starts to heat up. Also you are able to catch the period of watermelon harvest and the annual Taitung International (Hot-air) Balloon Fiesta. This fiesta goes for 3 months and there are events every weekend, mainly rides on the hot-air balloons, concerts, food streets etc. It is a liberating feeling watching the colourful balloons get inflated on the ground then lift off into an azure blue sky! For food for a large group of people (more than 5 pax), you can consider Shark's Museum 鲨鱼馆 . 7 dishes + 1 soup for NT2000 or 8 dishes + 1 soup for NT500. Depending on the owner's (fish, not necessarily shark) catch of the day, she might recommend other dishes.

Also, a car is a must as public transport ends quite early.

I personally suggest to rent a car or a scooter (cheap from just 15USD per day).

However, this is also its advantage. Its lag in development means less pollution and a better preserved environment. It provides a lot of room for outdoor activities. The villages outside the city are lovely. The people there are friendly and helpful.

Many attractions and view points along the way. Book a cab and cabby will be able to bring you along this route and show many sights of along teh coast.
