Conclusion Rather than touring around tourist attractions, the stay was comfortable enough to relax in the accommodation: a beautiful garden and a comfortable traditional Korean house stay. 1. Garden: It looks exactly like the pictures, and if you look closely, you can see that every corner is carefully decorated and maintained. At night, it looks even more atmospheric with the lights. It makes you want to take pictures automatically. (After touring around the tourist attractions, you can easily fall asleep because you are tired.) 2. Accommodation: The room and bathroom were clean and well-maintained, and the floor was warm. 3. Bedding: It was clean and comfortable enough to fall asleep quickly. 4. Soundproofing: You could hear some noise from the next room, but everyone was quiet, so it wasn't a big inconvenience. 5. Convenience stores nearby: There is one about 100m away, and there is a vending machine in the accommodation where you can get drinks, water, and beer. 6. Nearby restaurants: The Golden Dragon restaurant across the street had good reviews on Naver, and it was not bad (but it seemed to have a break time. It was only available for dinner after 5 pm). There is also a good tofu restaurant about 200m towards Bulguksa. There is also a list of recommended restaurants in the room. 7. Location: It is a pleasant walk to Bulguksa on foot. Also, it is a good place to see the view of Mt. Toham from the accommodation.

The environment of the homestay is very peaceful, with ancient pine trees and buildings. The rooms are very clean and the room rates are unbelievably affordable. The owner is very friendly. On the day of check-out, he helped us take photos in the courtyard and immediately offered to drive us to the nearby Buddha's Land Temple. Along the way, he kept telling me how filial I was for bringing my mother on a trip. He also explained how to take the bus back after we finished our sightseeing. Since we left our luggage at the homestay, we went back to retrieve it after visiting the temple. The owner even drove us to the nearby bus stop to catch our bus. We are really grateful for his kindness. This Korean-style house is almost fully booked on weekends, so it is recommended to choose weekdays. If you have the opportunity to book a room, you must personally experience it.

This hanok stay is a friendly family-run business, a rural and very quiet location convenient to the temples and mountains on the edge of Gyeongju, a good 25 min drive from the center of town. Provided that you rent or own a car (we rented one from Singyeongju KTX station), this is a super convenient location closest to Bulguksa temple area, so you can stay the night and then get see the sights early in the morning and avoid all the crowds. Note that the hanok is a small family business, so there’s no front desk— it’s more like an Air BNB in a way, so you should plan to arrive before 8 or 9 and be sure to think about where you’ll eat or buy some pre-prepared food in advance. However, the hanok itself is large and beautiful, situated in a little farming village and surrounded by carefully-tended gardens within the premises, with some tables you might sit at to enjoy a cup of tea or some food. Each room is small, simple, and comfortable, in traditional hanok style— certainly not luxurious, but that’s the way it’s supposed to be. The sleeping mats/futon are quite thick and comfortable. The owner very passionately does a whole photo shoot for you in his garden with your smartphone if you want, and the photos are actually fantastic. We loved this place so much we reserved one more night so we could really enjoy Gyeongju a bit longer. As visitors from abroad, it was reassuring, too, to see that all the other guests were Korean domestic tourists, which suggested to us that they trusted the quality of this business. Do note that the owners don’t seem to speak much English at all, but if you’ve installed Papago or other AI translation on your phone you should be able to communicate just fine. Stayed one night with friends. Futons were comfy, would want to come back again in other seasons as summer was too hot. Couldn’t figure out how to switch on the heater for the showers so had to make do with cold water, which was the only issue, and it was too late so we just made do. The room was very clean and comfy, toilet comes with a bidet, and the Hanok itself was extremely beautiful, tranquil and just a nice change from the city. If I had the time I would want to just space out in front of my room in the later afternoon or evening. Would stay again if I have the chance!

I had an amazing experience at this Hanok stay. It looks just as good in real life as in the pictures. It’s run by a Korean couple who are very kind and nice. Their English is limited but you can easily communicate with them through translation apps. It would be convenient to stay here if you have a car. There is plenty of parking space outside the Hanok. You can easily get around with taxi too. The room is nice and cozy and everything was very clean. The room is your typical Hanok style room but the bathroom is very modern and clean so that’s a huge bonus. The view of the Hanok at night is beautiful so get your pictures in. The owner is extremely kind and will offer to take pictures of you in the best spots if you ask him. Make sure to take your shoes off before you go into your room. There is a shoe rack directly outside. Additionally each Hanok room has a padlock with a unique combination. When you go to check in the owner will tell you the combination for your room so note it down or take a picture. Every time you leave your room make sure to lock it behind you. I have no doubt that if you’re visiting Gyeongju this should be on your list as a place to stay. It was certainly a memorable experience and something I would do again.
