Northern Territory hotels & places to stay

We checked in very early, arriving at 7am when rooms aren't normally available until 2pm so they offered to downgrade us to a hotel room rather than the villa I booked at no extra charge - normally we'd have had to pay an extra half day. I think the rooms were bigger than the villas in any case, and they were comfortable with nice beds and pillows, a ceiling fan and an efficient air conditioner. The TV didn't seem to get all the channels as I couldn't find the ABC2 kids TV channel, but apart from that we were very happy there. My 5 year old loved the pool but it is very deep in the middle but with a small step area for smaller kids - would recommend some kind of floatation device if you plan to spend any time there with kids. Would have been nice if the hotel had provided a couple of pool noodles or similar for guest use. Easy walk to the shops, only about 2 blocks to Coles, Red Rooster, the cinemas, heaps of bars and restaurants, opp parkland (but a bit of a hike back to the children's play area). We checked out about 5am and the friendly staff was on the desk to ensure our booked taxi arrived and efficiently checked us out etc. Absolutely no complaints and would stay there again if we fly through Darwin again.

we had a very enjoyable stay over the past weekend at darwin central hotel. it is very well named because it's situated right at the northern end of the smith st mall. this is in the centre of the cbd and is surrounded by good quality restaurants and bars. the bus terminal and new warf precinct are both within 5 minutes walk. the staff were very attentive and helpfull. we had a great full buffer breakfast for $17 each and the whole acommodation package was very affordable. our room was very comfortable and quiet even though we were so centally located.

If you want to visit the Kings Canyons, this is a nice place to stay. It’s in the middle of nowhere., not a lot else to do, no internet and no telephone reception. The restaurant is nice, but book ahead it’s quick fully booked. The breakfast was in the same restaurant and was quite good. The little store, not a lot available and very expensive, what is normal because it all needs to come from far. The “hotel” prices are also not cheap, but it’s expensive everywhere in the outback.

First time with Mercure, , had no idea when we booked what it would be like, was pleasantly surprised of the lovely first impression when pulling up to book in ... We felt we were in Bali... Great experience and would recommend this hotel and will certainly go back when visiting Darwin in the future..F fabulous staff and Accommodation and the food was to die for .. definitely 5*****

This hotel rates itself as 4 star which is probably okay...except for a few things. It is clear the intent of this hotel is to offer 4 star facility at 3 star pricing and I think they do pull this off. However there is no bag service when you arrive. You have to unload your own bags and take them to your room. No great surprise at the price but not 4 star. The room is nice and the bed was definitely 4 star. I choose to stay at 4 star for the bed comfort level is generally better and this hotel does not let you down. However there is no stock in the fridge in the room...yet you still have to pay $100 deposit on your credit card on booking????? We only had one sandwich in the restaurant as we were only there a few days and it was nice and fresh. Although it took so long I wondered if they had to drive to Palmerston to get some of the ingredients. We found the location was good. It is a stroll from the central city and wharf area. This was a definite plus for this hotel. In addition despite being close to the city etc it was a quiet hotel as well.

after reading so may unfavourable reviews of hotels in darwin, i was not sure what to expect with my stay at the mantra given it seemed to be the best of a bad bunch but this place was modern, spacious and really exceeded my expectations. i stayed in a harbour view room and it was definitely worth paying extra for the upgrade. i had a balcony overlooking the beach and esplanade and a separate spacious bedroom with a bath and shower. the living room was spacious with a beautiful view and by far the best hotel i stayed at whilst i was darwin. definitely worth checking out if you are looking for somewhere modern with nice facilities. the pool however it not as large as the photos depict and you may struggle to get a spot there on the warmer days.

This is the third visit to the Club Tropical Resort and I'll keep coming back. You want value for money, beautiful clean, bright and spacious room book here. You want quality room presentation then here is for you in that your bedding is so comfortable, your complimentary toiletries are top quality all coupled with tea making facilities and eve a coffee pod machine in your room. Now for the staff, outstandingly obliging , courteous and friendly. The resort also offers a free airport shuttle service. There is however one draw back and that there is at the moment no public transport in the resorts vicinity so a car is handy, having said that Theresort offers a free shuttle service 2 or 3 times a day to the Cassurina Shopping Complex. To Ian, Monica and their staff thank you - would I stay here again, YOU BETCHA I WOULD, any time I visit Darwin.

I planned a 5 night getaway to surprise my husband for his 60th birthday. I was impressed by the online reviews I had read about the Zen Quarter and booked it at what I considered to be a very reasonable price for accommodation in Darwin. Our flight was a late arrival and we were met by a very friendly couple of staff members, any other staff we met with were also very pleasant, greeted you and did their utmost to be helpful. My only disappointment was not having an ocean view. Car parking was very good, pool was great, particularly for swimming laps or for children being a consistent depth, apartment was modern and clean and tidy. The apartment would benefit from a few more kitchen implements, no face washers were available and the drainage in the shower was insufficient, resulting in the bath mat becoming saturated. Overall we had a very good time and would book this accommodation again.

Arrival early in the day didn't cause a problem and rooms were large, quiet, well-equipped and well-maintained, with the promised mountain view. Air-conditioning was efficient quiet and very controllable. Bathroom fixtures were modern and well designed. Hotel adjoins the golf course and is not in town. Generally a car is advised. In-room information was exasperatingly inaccurate: different numbers for contacting room service were given on the in-room menu and on the notice on the phone; there was no drinks menu in the room. Breakfast buffet was a bit limited but hot breakfast was good quality; breakfast staff appeared overstretched. Main meals could be taken in the bar-bistro style area (late morning onwards) or in the award-winning restaurant known for its food (open for lunch on weekdays only, but dinner 7 days). I used room service due to illness and it was very slow. The food was unappetising (very shrunken and wrinkled roast veggies) and almost cold; no salt or pepper were provided, although there was a butter portion despite no bread being requested (or provided). The hotel is not cheap, but the situation and overall hotel quality, plus the good restaurant, make it a place I'd want to stay in again.

This was our first stop in Darwin after travelling there on The Ghan from Adelaide. After a short hiccup of trying to find our booking; we found the staff to be most helpful going the extra mile of upgrading us into a better accommodation than we had booked. The staff on duty also helped us with our "pick up" for the next morning from Viator tours as we were cut off on the phone to them when we tried to call them. A recording came on to say that the office was closed. The staff on duty was exceptional in calling them and sorting our problem and organizing for us to be picked up from the Hotel. They were wonderful!!

Booked to stay here for 2 days and stayed for another 5. Room was large and good size bathroom - nice and quiet to. Everything you need from a travellodge with restaurant and great front desk service. Complements to Jason especially who made our stay trouble free when AGODA lost our booking. Nothing was problem and he made our stay stress free. Thank you Jason. Nice pool and facilites such as restaurant and laundry service for you to use. Hotels need to include wifi as standard. Found the costs too expensive

We checked in to Coconut Grove on the last day of our holiday in the Northern Territory. We visited Darwin's waterfront and Mindil beach and did not have time to enjoy the pool of Coconut Grove. We found the spacious and clean rooms very pleasant and highly recommendable, also for the proximity to the airport. The staff was very helpful to arrange a taxi in the early hours to the airport. Correcting my booking after I had double booked after my daughter's flight bookings (for six people) took a long time, but I did receive a refund for all but one night in one room. I was grateful for the refund, but a few hundred dollars were wasted on the unused room. There seemed to be a continual problem with the printers in Reception which meant that no tickets were printed for the Yellow Waters Cruises on the two occasions on which I booked. Despite the assurance of the Reception staff that this would not matter, I was subjected to an intense interrogation by the first tourist guide who felt that I might have been "tricking" her company although my name was on her list with a booking for eight people, all of whom were with me. I found this degrading, but we were allowed on as fortunately I had the small printed receipt from the EFTPOS machine on me. She proved to be a good tourist guide if a deeply suspicious one! The first time the printers were not "working" and the second time, they had run out of ink. However, the second tourist guide let us on without demur once I showed my little receipt. Otherwise, the staff were very helpful, efficient and considerate, particularly those serving meals under a great deal of pressure.

Exactly what we were after for a 1 night stop over in Kakadu. We didn't spend much time in the room, just a quick swim & off again to the Yellow Waters sunset cruise, then back for dinner & bed. It had everything we needed, comfy beds, kettle, toaster, plates & cutlery & fridge for breakfast as there is no b/fast offered at the restaurant. The dinner we had by the pool was sensational - best meal of our trip to the NT. The only negative was that the sprinklers turned on at 3:30am and sprayed hard against the metal walls and woke us all up. I'd say it went for about an hour. Could've been timed better but didn't ruin our stay. I'd stay there again for sure.

The Hostel is quiet so you get your sleep if you want to, but you also always find people to hang out with at the pool or have a few drinks in the common area. The rooms are big with huge lockers for all your stuff. Big kitchen, plenty of showers and toilets everything get cleaned daily. 2min to Woolworth and 5min to Mitchell St with all the pubs. Staying here long term for the second time and really can recommend it

The staff were amazing - friendly and helpful and they had a good sense of humour. The village room with disabled facilities was fantastic with a cooktop, TV, comfortable bed, and spacious the two pools are well located at the resort amongst the lush gardens. I had meet other people that wished they had booked at Knotts Crossing Resort rather than where they were staying further out of town. I would definitely recommend Knotts Crossing Resort and would stay here again. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.

If there is one thing I will say the Casino hotel has above all others in Alice Springs is that if something is wrong it will make it right... in the end.... if you fight for it. I specifically booked a room the same as the last one I stayed in, paying more for the bigger suite, only to be told upon check in it wasn't available and unless I could prove the photo there was not a damn thing they would do about it. Very unimpressed. Our room wasn't ready, we were told they'd let us know when it was, they didn't. Not happy. Got to our room and, oh joy, our bags hadn't arrived leaving us in wet swimsuits for an hour and the air con in the bedroom didn't work when it was 37 degrees outside. So we called down and due to renovations they only had one room left that wouldn't mean a downgrade. This room was the 2 bedroom 2 level suite, WOW! what a room, so happy with this upgrade. We fought tooth and nail to enjoy our mini getaway and in the end it worked out. They did make it right.

We had stayed at Luma Luma previously, so when we decided to spend five days in Darwin we wanted a place that offered facilities for some self-catering. We stayed in one of the studio apartments with a decently equipped kitchenette which was perfect for us. The place is perfect for sightseeing as it is easy walking distance to all attractions, restaurants, shops, cafes, bars, etc., and not far from the popular waterfront precinct. We hired a car for one day's touring around out of Darwin and appreciated the guest carpark. Visiting Darwin in the middle of summer also meant we used the pool a few times and the BBQ in the pool area was terrific for a couple of easy dinners for us. The staff are super friendly and each day when we returned from walking the city our room was spotlessly clean with all tea and coffee replenished and fresh towels etc. When we visit Darwin again, we will definitely stay at Luma Luma. There are newer hotels in Darwin, but the self-catering facilities make this one unbeatable value.

We walked into the Pandanas after a three day basic 4 wheel drive camping trip with high expectations and were not disappointed. Although we had booked a city view room we were pleased to see a panoramic view of Darwin Harbour from our 14th floor balcony. The hotel is easy walking distance to local attractions and restaurants. The rooms are clean and tastefully decorated as you would expect in a new hotel. As the hotel is still being built there were teething problems such as irregular lifts, fire alarms that went off and doors that wouldn't open (to the pool). The restaurant had recently opened and looked inviting but we chose to eat elsewhere and made our own cold breakfast in the room. The pool area was on the 6th floor and very pleasant when we could finally get in. We were really happy with our stay overall and would stay there again if we could get another good deal on the rates.

We were supposed to stay with Darwin friends upon arrival on a red eye from Bali and 20 hours of travel...but they had to go to Perth! I booked through Agoda and rang the hotel to ask for an early check-in, explaining our desire to put head to pillow well before 2pm. No problem they said, and organised housekeeping to clean our room first...ready at 10am. Once we arrived, the reception staff were professional, friendly and welcoming. The rooms are clean and it's a brand new hotel right in the heart of the city. We will be staying there again next week on our way back to Bali. Thank you and see you then! Jay & Bella
